When I meet new people, I often ask “what’s your personality type?” Frequently, they have taken the Keirsey Temperament Sorter before, and quite a few know their Meyers-Briggs personality type outright. Relatively few ask “what’s that?” or “which one?”

The Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) describes a broad range of personalities reasonably well, and so it has become the standard personality type system.
