Digital Camera: Canon PowerShot A590IS
November 25th, 2007
$113
For digital cameras, I’ve been recommending the Canon PowerShot series as broadly reasonable–we’ve got two and they’re great, still working just fine after several years. The A590IS has 8 megapixels, image stabilization, 4x optical zoom, uses AA batteries, and stores to an SD card. Consumer Search even labels it “best digital camera overall, best features”. For under $120, this is an easy pick.
Our previous digital camera recommendation was also a PowerShot.

These are great little cameras–affordable, good picture quality. I’ve had my PowerShot A40 for 4 years now, and it’s still going strong. They’re really easy to use–on a long car trip my 4-year-old nephew learned to take and review pictures, and even flip back and forth between functions. This is his self-portrait.
