Cooking Book: Cooking by James Peterson

$30

James Peterson has a reputation in the cooking industry, and his recently released (October 2007) tome is a compendium of general cooking instruction, along with 1500 color photos and over 600 quality recipes. For those who loved the Joy of Cooking but think the recent edition falls short, Chef James says this book will quickly become the canonical cooking text.

As an alternative reasonable cookbook, I’d suggest Mark Bittman’s How to Cook Everything [$15]. It’s hipper and more practical than The Joy of Cooking, yet incredibly thorough and easy to follow with an emphasis on simplicity and practicality. Bittman writes the Minimalist food column for the New York Times.
